SPRING LAMBS
Lancaster Auction had a reduced entry of Spring Lambs forward this week with more needed to satisfy our buyers’ requirements. Today saw an overall market average of 325p/kg. Pure Texel, 45kg lambs from JR Gorst, Dolphinholme sold to £166 purchased by Gregory William Butchers, Lancaster, with other pure Texels from the same home selling to £150. The consignment of Texel lambs from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham sold to £156 and £153, this was followed by S Wilson & Son Scotforth selling to £153 and £150. Texel lambs from RC Billington & Son, Claughton-on-Brock sold to £150 and £147. Other noted Texel prices were £146 from PD Anderton, Scorton, £145 from C Ellison, Pilling and £144 from WN & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham who also topped the Suffolk section selling to £143. As more companies are changing on to Spring Lambs, Lancaster is looking for more Spring Lambs to fulfil our eight active buyers’ requirements.
PRIME HOGGS
Lancaster had a reduced number of Prime Hoggs in the market today, that saw Texels sell to £130 from Barker Farms, Cockerham and Mashams topping at £120 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton.
CAST SHEEP
Following on from last week's large number forward, there was a reduced number on offer with trade slightly less following on from last week’s Ramadam festival but cast sheep were still eagerly bid for and in strong demand. Continental ewes sold to £112 and £109 from K A Purtill, Wigan. Mule ewes peaked at £111 from GS Lambert, Warrington. Plenty of Mule ewes were selling to the £80-£90 mark.
SHEEP WITH LAMBS AT FOOT
Following on from last week’s big sale, there was only a handful of hoggs with lambs at foot forward, that saw younger hoggs with young lambs from Barker Farms sell to £160.
